Senior Seminar: American Sign Language 🤞🏾

For my new experience, I decided to take a Senior Seminar on learning Sign Language. I hadn't learned how to communicate through sign before, so I felt like this was a perfect opportunity to do so as I've always been interested in learning it one day. We met every Monday and Friday, and our beginning sessions focused on learning the alphabet and spelling words. Then, we learned a few words, played games and prepared for our performance for the Senior Farewell Dinner.

Takeaways

Going into this, I hoped that learning ASL would help me communicate with more people from the deaf community, or if I’m ever in a place with people who are hard-of-hearing. After this experience, I feel that I would be able to do so more if I keep practicing sign language beyond this project.
